Marketing and lead acquisition work on Facebook, Instagram, and Google Ads. Resulted in over 500 email leads for initial growth audience.

Product positioned strategically to fit with trends in TV usage: larger screens getting cheaper, TVs being used as aesthetic centerpieces in the home, faster internet speeds allowing higher quality video streaming.

Targeting an inefficiency in the “art on your TV” market. Current competitors either focus on low quality live cameras, static images, or convoluted, expensive subscriptions in a full-fledged art marketplace.

Positioning strategically for the growing space of augmented reality interfaces, and targeting a version of the technology that is currently feasible and under-utilized (namely using location-based AR in such a way that multiple users experience the same augmented reality).

Positioning strategically to for two shifts in the art world:

Reduce the barrier of entry for artists to distribute their art (much easier to create digital art pieces than physical ones).

Allowing public art to expand to new scales and contexts that it wouldn’t be able to if kept physical (e.g. 100 foot long pieces floating in Times Square, etc).

Decided that impacting the election was one of the highest EV activities I could take on in 2020, and worked with the Democratic Party first before finding the non-partisan local group Bull City Votes, where I believed I could offer more concrete impact: their mission was to close on votes, not only canvass and have conversations.

My volunteer group provided more than 200 rides to the polls and cured 135 ballots.

I often stepped in to provide rides and cover areas that needed more resources, always seeking to fill in any efficiency gaps.

Found creative ways to improve our canvasser targeting efforts, including finding datasets from local government officials in Savannah.

Networked with other organizations working in Savannah to share volunteers and canvassing information (e.g. Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda, New Georgia Project, Georgia Rising)

Grew the hive work mobile apps to over 600K total users with 5M tasks completed daily. Mobile platform went from 0% to 20% of Hive’s data labelling workforce over 4 months.

Coalesced priorities from executive, business, machine learning, and mobile engineering teams to build quick high value prototypes for many different in-house models. This also meant often having to quickly build proof-of-concept demos myself if the CEO needed something quickly for a pitch.

Found opportunities to take advantage of new, yet to be pervasive technologies. TensorFlow Lite and PyTorch Mobile were still experimental forms of shrinking machine learning model sizes for use on mobile devices.

After working on the 2020 election, I decided that local government was the best place for me to begin pursuing higher impact work.

Key impact opportunities from the commission include:

Improving access to employment for low-income communities in Durham. There are multiple projects that are currently proposed with varying degrees of assistance that they would provide (including commuter rail and bus rapid transit).

Maximizing commitments from developers to improve local bike and pedestrian safety and access.

→

Public advocacy for walkability, bike infrastructure, improved public transportation, and reducing car dependence, all of which lead to healthier and safer communities.

Prototyped an improvement to community outreach using Social Pinpoint, a tool to solicit community issues and comments by location.

→

Wrote four new policies for the 2050 Durham Comprehensive Plan that were approved by the commission and submitted as suggested inclusions to the City of Durham.

Experimenting with Walk Durham, a service to provide Durham locals direct ways to learn about and impact positive changes in walkability and public transit.
