I experiment with ways to expand the use of spaced repetition for personal learning and task management.
I feel it put a name on the idea that I had been thinking about after first revisiting anki and spaced repetition in 2021/02. With spaced repetition, memory is a choice. That same idea translates to consumption in the form of incremental reading. From there, I imagine that this cognitive optimization way of interacting with information may have even larger implications (the size of those implications has expanded thanks to andy matuschak coining this term).
I began using Anki in February of this year, 2021. I had saved a link to Anki years earlier, I completely forgot why I had saved that link. In an attempt to get through my backlog of links, I finally looked into Anki and learned about spaced repetition.
Create a course that teaches bayes’ theorem and solomonoff induction. Integrate the course with spaced repetition learning.
With spaced repetition, remembering a piece of information has a clear time-cost. This means, as long as we are willing to pay the cost, we can decide to not forget a piece of information.
This was a bit revolutionary for me as a concept, and it was one of the main pushes that started me down this spaced repetition, incremental reading, etc rabbit hole in 2021/02
